Whispers In The Wind

Whispers In The Wind is a 26”x 22”mixed media painting.

Trees have always inspired me, and I recently learned that trees communicate to each other through chemical signals on the breeze. I've been putting the finishing touches on this week. It's been a long wonderful process. I first painted the image in layers using acrylic and ink on heavy watercolour paper. I let it sit for a few weeks before deciding what to do next as I wanted to try some new techniques and make it really interesting. I hand painted papers and colleged them into the base of the trees. I took a course on weaving paintings, and realized it would add  texture in depth here. So I did the brave move of cutting off the bottom of the painting  and cutting it into strips ,and then cutting the painting itself into vertical strips. I then wove the horizontal strips into the vertical strips and painted them again to add more colour and texture.

It was looking really nice at this point and I decided to add some small little colourful shrubs with acrylic paint and a fine brush.

Last step varnishing and signing on the back before shipping, ready to be put into a frame and hung.
